I can try to blame my lack of blogging on my pregnancy, but quite frankly it is mostly due to the fact that there have been very few newsworthy fashion events going on lately. That is, until now...
Not one, but two of fashion's heavy hitters are auctioning off their wardrobes.
Firstly, the late great Diana Vreeland's wardrobe will be auctioned off this weekend by Kerry Taylor Auctions. For anyone who does not know the legacy of Diana Vreeland, she was the editor in Chief of both Harper Bazaar and American Vogue with a career in fashion spanning almost 50 years. You can only imagine this woman's archives being that she was close friends with every legendary designer that lived. The most sought after piece is the haute couture gown she commisioned from Yves Saint Laurent to wear to the Met Ball in 1985 which is embellished with Lesage embroidery, beading and golden glass stones, is expected to sell for between £2,000 to £3,000. The second collection up for sale is that of British journalist Suzy Menkes. She will be auctioning her collection off at Christie's. Menkes also has an extremely impressive background in fashion and will be selling off her archives which she has held in storage for many years. Some of her collection includes iconic vintage pieces from the house of Pucci, Ossie Clark, YSL and so many more. As a major vintage collector I will be tracking these sales. If only my budget allowed me to buy some of these pieces...this is what dreams are made of.
