A Cyndi Story.
While working for Betsey Johnson in NYC I had the great pleasure of working with/dressing some of the most amazing people. One of my most notable clients was Cyndi Lauper! I dressed her for several appearances, before she took on a full time stylist. There is no denying, this woman knows what she wants. From the moment she walked into the door, I would have to take a deep breath just to prepare myself for her energy. It was a great energy! She is very precise with pattern and color and what registers on film and what does not, it was truly inspiring. My favorite memory of her, was dressing her for a television appearance the year she released her "Bring ya to the Brink" album. I was showing her a pair of espadrilles to wear with this amazing red dress (which I own ;) she asked me if I thought the shoes would look good with bakelite jewelry? She proceeded to tell me that she had a collection of Bakelite jewelry explaining each piece! I then had to ask the burning question. Do you still have all of your Stage Wear from the 80s? She replied with an enthusiastic "YES" apparently she has an entire archive of all of her clothes. Thus began my obsession with archiving my vintage and designer pieces.
Another great memory was dressing her for yet another televised appearance. A young lady was in the fitting room trying on dresses for prom. The young girl came out in a fantastic cupcake style, then immediately tried on a simple pencil cut. Cyndi was very proactive in giving her advice the whole time she was trying on these dresses. She insisted that the young lady get the cupcake dress because it was more special after all, it was her prom. The young lady politely smiled and brushed her off. Cyndi looked at me, and laughingly said, I don't, do you think? she knows who I...NAH. We both had a giggle. Needless to say the girl bought the boring dress over the cupcake. Clearly not a lady of the 80s...because if Cyndi was helping me pick out my prom dress, You better believe I would buy the one she told me to. :)

Parlour's Passups.
I loved this paisley block print but the cut was hideous.
this dainty little floral print caught my eye because it reminded me of a Celia Birtwell print, the fabric was itchy though.
and lastly, this Pucci esque print was divine, but the shirt had too many ripped seams to repair, and I am too lazy to repair them :)

Nashville darlings!
If you haven't picked up your June issue of American Vogue go get it now! In the vein of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, or perhaps Loretta Lynn and Doolittle. Nashvillians will be excited to see that the new King and Queen of our fair city, Karen Elson and Jack White grace the pages.
It is the first time they have ever agreed to pose together, and who better to shoot it than Annie Leibovitz? The editorial was shot in Nashville and it is just gorgeous!
Karen Elson's album "The Ghost who Walks" releases this Tuesday.
Catch her this Monday at Third Man records for a free concert with her band
Show starts at 6pm
623 7th Ave. S.)
Event is Free
or on Wednesday
for an
acoustic set and signing at Grimey's New and Preloved Music
(1604 8th Ave. S.), also at 6 p.m., free and all ages.

The Anna Sui Chronicles.

Parlour's Pass Ups.
last week was budget will not allow week.
I passed up this amazing Pierrot doll, why? because as much as I want another one, I don't need another one. even if it is $5.99
The second item was this adorable floral on houndstooth printed top...except it was the kind of cut my great grandmother wore...rest her soul.
Lastly, and most regrettably was this gorgeous Anna Sui top from Anthropologie.
Now, I was not buying for the shop, it would have been for myself. However, as much as I adore Anna Sui, I cannot justify spending $75 on one top these days.

Anna Plunkett
I have fallen in love with Australian designer Anna Plunkett's colorful collections.
here is her bio
It takes a lot of courage to turn down an internship with John Galliano but that’s exactly what Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales did to pursue the dream of Romance Was Born.
Plunkett and Sales became friends while studying at East Sydney Technical College and attended The Fourth International Support Awards in Italy where they turned Galliano down.
Instead they pursued their love of kitsch and creativity gaining the attention of the fashion media at Australian Fashion Week in 2008.
* In 2008 they produced a capsule collection for retail giant Sportsgirl.
* Romance Was Born won the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Designer Award in 2008. “We are bold and innovative in the way we design, so it’s good to know people can appreciate it,” Plunkett says.
* At Australian Fashion Week in 2009 they held an ocean themed collection at the Sydney Theatre Company’s wharf.
* Myf Shepherd appeared on the cover of Vogue Australia, July 2009 in their designs.

Home Improvements.
It has been 9 months since we moved into our new house! the renovation process has been a bit slow moving, so I have decided I am going to do a better job of tracking my progress with our home improvements. Here is one of my first projects.
Danny's mom gave us these ultra cool modern dining chairs. I wasn't too psyched on the color so I decided to paint them a dark brown. We don't have a dining table yet, but the possibilities are limitless with this color...don't you think?

As the photos of the the Met Gala fashionables trickle onto the web, I picked up this video of the actual Costume Institute exhibit. Take a look at all of these gorgeous pieces of American fashion from the late 1800s to the early 1900s
