July Girl!

This gal is the sweetest! I met her a while back, when I was working for Betsey Johnson in NYC. She manages the Nashville BJ store, and she always rocks the coolest of the collections! She is also an ice skater!! So cool..

Name: Taylor Thompson

Interests: Dressing up, experimenting with makeup colours, dancing, dreaming of pop stardom, cupcake making, and crafting cards.

How long have you lived in Nashville? I have lived in Nashville for roughly 8 years.

Favorite Nashville spot: Well, I love driving by the Belmont campus. It's gorgeous!!! But otherwise I'm chowing down at Jackson's (I love the fried cookie dough egg rolls!), or hanging with my hubby and kiddo and the Warner parks.

My favorite Nashvillian? It's got to be Jackson, my sweet son! He's only 2 1/2 but he's a pure bread, and he's already showing signs of a little twang! :)

Do or DYE.

Yesterday I found this really rad bolero on one of my thrifting sprees. It reminded me of the Balmain styles that are ever so stylish at the moment! I love the sequin epaulets, however, I wasn't so psyched on the color. So, I decided to tech it down to a grayish lavender color. I thought I would document the process, because dyeing is one of my favorite things to do!! I put my niece to work photographing the process.

I used black Rit dye, and because the fabric on this jacket is synthetic, it did not take on a really dark color. The process is so simple it's silly. However, you have to make sure you take the proper steps to get an even dye job (unless you're into a tie dye effect;). First you want to add steaming hot water along with a cup of salt. Pour your dye into the tub or bucket, and carefully submerge your garment. Make sure to wear gloves, and move the piece around to ensure an even dye. continue this process for 10 to 20 minutes depending on how deep you want the color.

Finally, drain your dye water then set the color by pouring cold water onto the garment, until water runs clear. Voila, you have your dyed garment.

I was really psyched that the sequins dyed as well!!!

My Golden Birthday!!!

I am 28 years old today, and the only thing that I could think to post about is that not only do I share the same birthday with my twin, I also share the same birthday with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the most stylish woman of all time! It is flattering that I was born on the same day as someone so great, a true icon in every sense of the word. I am going to pay homage to her on this day...Our Birthday!!!

Wild Style.

I didn't post much this weeked, because I spent Saturday and some of Sunday, cleaning out my mother's garage, most of which was filled with all of my stuff! It is always nice to go through old things and rediscover old gems. One gem in particular is this book that I found in college for 99 cents at an old warehouse sale. It is called "Wild Style." Before there was Japan's "Fruits" the authors of this book documented all of the cool kids with style, in the streets of Manhattan. This book was published in 1984 during the height of 80s punk DIY style! In the book there is a guide to the latest hairstyles, which are actually pretty current (Alice Dellal, your do has already been done.) my fave are the shots of Pat Field doing her makeup in the mirror. You can find a copy of this book on amazon.com, I highly suggest you get yourself a copy!!!! By the looks of this months NYLON, it's all about the 80s again YALL!!!!

Little Boxes.

So the house hunt continues, and all I can think about is decorating. Here are some more inspiration shots. I know I need bookshelves galore, and a rad kitchen set up. A place to store my sunglasses collection would be rad too ;)

Fashion Confession.

... I have a serious obsession with hooker boots. Yes hooker boots. When I was living in NY I began my collection, and it continues to grow. I am not ashamed to bust out a pair every now and then, being that I am 5ft 2 they actually give me a great boost. I am so excited that this fall is all about some thigh high hooker boots!! Marc Jacobs has some that will be mine, and Prada has some that are to die for.

Score!!!

I did a lot of shopping in NY. Mostly for my booth. I scored so many great things! I'd have to say my best score was this Sarah Moon print. I found it at Salvation Army Astor Place in a cracked frame. Because the frame was cracked they only charged me $10 for it!! I had never seen a Sarah Moon print for sale before, so because of my obsession and dedication to this artist, I cut it out of the frame in the middle of the store...the employees definitely thought I was nuts.

For anyone that does not know about Sarah Moon click HERE and scroll down for the story!!
