Christmas and the beads of Sweat

Growing up I remember a lot of really interesting characters coming and going in my life. Dinner with Don Was, A telephone call from Steven Tyler, Ronnie Spector at my kitchen table. I remember most, the constant presence of my parent's best friend Laura Nyro. I was a small child when she came around, so I don't remember much, but I distinctly remember how sweet her voice was and how much I knew she loved my family.

If you don't know about Laura Nyro
she was a composer, lyricist and performer. Though her voice was one of the greatest in folk music, her songs were more widely heard by the likes of Three Dog Night, The Fifth Dimension, and Barbara Stresiand. In Early Summer of 1970 my father produced one of her records titled "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat"

In these photos I am wearing a woven coat that Laura gave to my mother from a trip to Alaska. This coat is a dear possession as Laura Nyro is no longer with us and it is the only item of clothing that survived a fire in our house.
